“ My paintings definitely have their roots in memories, when I close my eyes I see fragments, as if under a veil. From the first drops of ink on canvas images magically appear, and my visions unfold like flowers in spring.”
ABOUT
My art makes me feel connected to nature--- to explore its beauty and complexity. From flowers in bloom, to birth and death; the warmth of light, the mysteries of the dark, all of these elements informs my vision as an artist.
I am guided by imagination and intuition; I let the ink guide the art. I look at each piece as a kind of visual diary; a way to document beauty, but also to create something lasting, something permanent. In a time where so much of the natural world is in peril, my art is a constant reminder of the magnificence all around me. Sometimes, the forms manifest more organically, they seem real, touchable. Other times they can take on an invisible, hidden quality, and yet are still reminiscent of the world around us. I am often fixated on the multi-dimensional aspects of light and shadow, blurring the line between what’s real and what’s imagined.
Alcohol ink allows for great depth and detail in my work, its fluid properties are very malleable and work magic on the canvas. I observe, almost as a third person, as one shape evolves into something else entirely; I play with the layers of colour, carving into the dry ink to bring out an intricate web of detail. There are times when the end result surprises me, and I realize that I can find a delicate balance between control and freedom in my work… and in my life.
Looking back, I see how the various stages of my life have all culminated to this time of inner calm I now feel. There is a fulfillment within that comes from being able to tap into my emotions and express them through my art.
